A Model from Belgium
On Thursday 27 July 2006, Draw Up Your Plant, an association of cannabis consumers based in Antwerp, Belgium, has put the seed of the first mother plant that will provide our collective plantation with clones. Later this year, we will install this plantation with one plant for each member. According to a ministerial decree of 2005, the possession of one plant by adult citizens will receive ’the lowest priority of persecution", which means this is allowed if no aggravating circumstances are in place (presence of minors etc.).
Draw Up Your Plant ("Trekt Uw Plant", in Flemish) allows cannabis consumers to provide themselves with cannabis without any commercial trade taking place. Every member can grow his/her personal plant in our collective plantation, according to strict but simple rules.
Draw Up Your Plant has requested the city of Antwerpen to allow us an adequate location to install our plantation. No reply has been received, we hope of course for a positive re-action later on.
We also call for local politicians to support us, for example with giving us a location. Normally local authorities stand closer to the voices of ordinary people, and should have more attention for problems created by an absolutely incoherent law.
A major aim of Draw Up Your Plant is the promotion of biological cultivation methods. Cultivation will take place under constant supervision of competent people, while the harvest remains the propriety of each member.
We will maintain informed the head of the Antwerp police, the lord mayor, of the whereabouts of this plantation, the administration of the association will be completely transparant and open, and the accounting will be accessible via Internet.
The plan is to start the collective plantation around end of september, when the motherplant will be big enough to take clones.
Draw Up Your Plant has currently 22 members.
