USA: consequences of draconian drug laws

America¹s prison population, the largest per-capita in the world, continues to grow as of June 2004 it numbered 2,131,180. Paige Harrison, co-author of the relevant report produced by the Justice Department, attributes this to the draconian laws of the nineteen-eighties; mainly on drug matters. Therapy and recovery programmes are urgently needed in sentencing.
